NSPGMBC started in 1997 as a church plant in North Vancouver. The English Ministry (EM) started as a youth group in 1998 as an extension of the Cantonese Ministry and eventually started its own Sunday service in 2006. EM has grown from a small teens group to a vibrant congregation consisting of mainly teens and young adults. POSITION SUMMARY
We are looking for a warm, self-motivated, community-minded Associate Pastor. The purpose of this job description is to outline the functions, scope of operating authority, and responsibilities this position.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- This position reports to the EM Lead Pastor of North Shore PG Church.
- The overall objective is to present and show by example the gospel of Jesus Christ to the congregation and to encourage them in their spiritual growth through worship, prayer and relationship.
- Scope of responsibility will be determined through a combination of candidate’s gifting and community need.
- To do administrative tasks and support and attend meetings of church’s ministries, committees, deacon board, pastors, staff and other groups.
- To preach, lead in worship, and provide a teaching ministry that will lead to the spiritual growth of the members and awaken them to an active outreach to their neighbour’s in evangelism.
- To teach baptism and new believers classes and administer baptism and communion.
- To provide leadership, teaching, oversight and support in Sunday services, praise teams, Sunday school, fellowships (specifically youths and perhaps children ministry), small groups, stewardship, hospitality, missions, outreach, retreats, and special events.
- To develop relationships with the children (if applicable), youths and young adults, parents, and volunteer staff through individual and group contact, e-mail, and phone.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Growing personal commitment to Jesus Christ, the body of Christ, and God’s work in the world.
- Ability to work effectively with mainly youths and young adults and sometimes children, exhibiting understanding and patience.
- Completed or in the process of completing formal theological training at the Bachelor or Masters level and a minimum 2 years of relevant experience preferred; however, candidates will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
- A calling for ministry and a heart for working with youth and young adults.
- An understanding of Chinese culture and being able to speak Cantonese and/or Mandarin is an asset.
- Outside of formal education, we may also look for a combination of Character (a high degree of self-awareness and integrity, and also reliable, authentic, and demonstrates a strong work ethic), Competence (motivated to learn and develop new skills), and Chemistry (team-oriented and has strong interpersonal and communication skills).
TIME COMMITMENT
40 hours of work per week including regular involvement on Sundays and fellowship days. Terms and duration are negotiated based on qualifications, experience, and capacity. Any dates when the associate pastor would be unavailable should be discussed prior to the start date so that they can be factored into the ministry plan.
COMPENSATION/BENEFITS
Salary, paid twice a month and extended health included.
