Youth & Young Adults Pastor
The ideal candidate will:
○ Have a clear testimony of faith in Christ Jesus marked by an intentional journey with Him shaped by personal and communal spiritual disciplines such as reading Scripture, prayer, worship, confession, fellowship, etc.
○ Be a creative and passionate leader who desires to see others encounter Jesus in every area of their lives. They will have a firm grasp of how discipleship takes, particularly for youth.
○ Have demonstrated the necessary communication, team-building, and administrative skills to thrive in a team environment made up of other pastoral staff, administrative staff, leadership council, volunteers, and congregants.
○ Have experience leading and discipling youth. Solid reflection on youths’ experience of the current cultural moment is a bonus.
○ Have theological training, and an understanding of the theology of discipleship and how that theology affects practice.
○ Understand and be in agreement with Fraserview’s Anabaptist theological heritage.
Duties and Responsibilities
● Plan and lead biblically and theologically informed youth evenings (currently part of Wednesday Community Night) that engage youth in fun-filled friendships while also strengthening their personal understanding and faith in Jesus.
● Plan and lead youth to engage with Fraserview’s Sunday Gathering in a way which enlivens and deepens their faith in Jesus, engages them with the wider spiritual-family of Fraserview, and encourages them to serve and contribute according to their gifts and as a full member of the community.
● Source and/or write and deliver appropriate preaching, teaching, and prayers that engage the youth in biblical, theological, cultural, and personal reflection on living a Christ-centered life.
● Source and/or design appropriate games and activities to encourage energetic and inclusive friendships among the youth.
● Plan and attend youth retreats and events (Mission Fest, Chapel, Serve events, Game events, etc.)
● Connect with the youth beyond Sundays and Wednesdays.
● Share in responsibility for discipling young adults as they transition from youth to adulthood.
● Gather and develop volunteers for participation in discipling the youth on Sunday’s, Wednesday’s, and beyond.
● Create and manage an annual budget in cooperation with the Finance Chair.
● Attend weekly staff meetings.
● Provide confidential pastoral care when required, in cooperation with the Lead Pastor.
● Engage and support the broader life of Fraserview (these include FraserviewKids Camp, Fraserview Camp, FraserviewKids Christmas Musical, pot-lucks, Sunday Gatherings, among others).
The youth pastor position is a 2-day per week/half-time position. It may be extended to include other elements of Fraserview’s life depending on the gifts and interests of the individual. Fraserview currently has other positions available on its job posting webpage. They may be combined together to provide a full-time position.
