Valleyview is looking for a full-time Lead Pastor who is called by the congregation to lead and work as part of the leadership team in forming vision and shepherding the local church. He is responsible to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and shepherd the local church; feeding them the Word of God and guarding them from unsound doctrine.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • He demonstrates a deep personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

  • He has personal discipline in his prayer life.

  • He has a passion for God’s Word and studying the scriptures (Ps 119).

  • He has the character traits described in 1 Timothy and Titus.

  • He is a self starter and takes initiative as he is led by scripture and the Holy Spirit (Rm 8:12-17).

  • He believes all scripture is inerrant and inspired by God (2 Tim 3:16-17).

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree from a Christian college, university or seminary in biblical, theological and pastoral studies.

  • A minimum of five years of experience in church ministry in a leadership and teaching role (including unpaid ministry).

  • If not already credentialed with the BC Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches, he must be willing to undergo the credentialing process within two years of being hired.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To study, exposit and preach the Word of God, effectively communicating and proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ.

  • To lead and work as a member of the leadership team, following God’s direction in developing the local church’s vision, setting goals and developing ministries that will fulfill that vision and equip the local body.

  • Seeks to spend time in prayer both personally and within his role in the church.

  • Actively fosters a culture of discipleship and encourages the congregation to be passionate followers of Jesus Christ, carrying out the great commission.

  • Focuses on discipling new leaders in the church and provides some counseling and visitation to the congregation as a whole.

  • Supervises and disciples the church staff.

  • Oversees the order of service in conjunction with the Associate Pastor.

The Lead Pastor is called by members of the local MB church through the Elders Board of the Church according to the Church Constitution and Guidelines of the Nechako Community Church and is responsible to the BCMB Conference and the Congregation through the Elders.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITY

The Lead Pastor, by working with and under the Elders, will provide spiritual and practical pastoral leadership and will oversee and develop the church’s ministries with specific attention to Nechako Community Church’s vision, mission and values statement.

The Lead Pastor will also oversee and direct the work of other paid and/or volunteer staff as well as oversee the long-term rental agreement.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Communicate a biblical vision through weekly preaching and teaching and spend time in prayer and study to discern God’s will for the spiritual direction of the church.
  2. Form and work with an Elders Board to discern the specific implementation of the church’s vision, mission and values.
  3. Provide and develop worship services and programs.
  4. Develop elders and ministry team leaders to effectively help to build the ministry of the church.
  5. Provide spiritual direction and care toward staff and build a strong team relationship with staff for effective ministry.
  6. Ensure church members are spiritually cared for and discipled.
  7. Lead the church to effectively communicate the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the community.
  8. Establish a disciplined membership/congregation which reflects Biblical expressions of holiness for followers of Jesus.
  9. To ensure that those who repent and believe are discipled and encouraged to participate in baptism and communion, as consider church membership.
  10. Perform weddings and funerals as needed in the ministry of the Church and ensure the provision of pastoral services in counselling,
  11. Consider and determine degree of co-operation with the local larger Christian community.
  12. Ensure administrative oversight and leadership of the church is clearly established and followed in all areas related to ministries, programming, staffing, policy and the long-term rental agreement.
  13. Ensure a good relationship and accountability of the church to the BCMB Conference and the Canadian MB Conference of church.
  14. Oversee the stewardship and accountability of the Churches physical and financial resources.
  15. Ensure timely, effective and accurate communication about spiritual and practical matters among leaders and staff of the church as well as with the larger church body.
  16. Determine the need for staff, the nature of the hiring process, ministry assessment and transition.
  17. Ensure on-going and regular oversight and development of staff in their roles and responsibilities.

  2. Willing accountability to the Elders Board as required regarding the use of time, special accounts and privileges such as time off or time away, and annual evaluation.

Worship Pastor Status: Part-Time Position

Summary 

Reporting to the Lead Pastor and in accordance with Eagle Ridge Bible Fellowship (ERBF) statement of faith, governing policies, and in harmony with other church ministries, the role or Worship Pastor is to provide leadership in the area of worship and music; believing that true worship celebrates all that God is and does and inspires us to respond with all that we are and do. Additionally, the role coordinates and mentors a team of volunteer worship leaders who rotate in leading Sunday morning worship services. 

Position Responsibilities 

  • -Oversees the administration of the worship/music ministry. Guides and supports the worship planning process, coordinating vocalist, and instrumentalists including responsibility for rehearsals in preparation for worship services. 
  • Oversees the weekly worship service planning with additional preparation for special and seasonal services in collaboration with pastors, designated committees and volunteer worship leaders as necessary. Assists worship leaders in the selection of songs and arrangements. 
  • Provides a balance between current music and worship trends with traditional music and hymns. 
  • Cast vision towards strategic planning 
  • Seeks opportunities to involve from children to seniors in congregational worship. 
  • Leads Sunday morning worship 1 to 2 times per month, (preferably using an instrument), in collaboration with volunteer worship leaders and creates and ongoing monthly schedule. 
  • Plans and coordinates worship service preparation for special and seasonal events. 
  • Supports and encourages spiritual growth in the worship team members, recognizing and encouraging spiritual gifts and musical talent.

Qualifications 

  • A committed Christian who has or is seeking ERBF membership. 
  • An educational background (either undergrad or graduate degree) specific to ministry and a minimum 3 years experience on staff in a church. 
  • A skilled musician who can lead while playing an instrument and is proficient in singing and choral conducting. 
  • Knowledge and skill in the application of sound systems, media, lighting, audio recording and editing would be beneficial. 
  • Strong planning, organizational and administrative skills. 
  • Ability to train, cultivate and equip Worship team volunteers. 
  • Ability and commitment to work collaboratively with staff and volunteers and build supportive relationships with all church ministries.
