Pastor, Sayward Christian Fellowship
Sayward
Part Time

Closing: Dec 31, 2024

Sayward Christian Fellowship is seeking a new part-time pastor to help us follow Christ faithfully forward together. We are a smaller church (approximately 25 people on a Sunday) in a rural community on north-east Vancouver Island. If you have a passion for the outdoors, whether it be fishing, hiking, hunting, mountain biking, etc, this may be the community for you.

What we are looking for in a Pastor:

  • We are praying for a person who loves the Lord, His Word and His people.
  • Our pastor will agree with and teach in line with the Confession of Faith of the Canadian Conference of Mennonite Brethren and will submit to the authority of our regional B.C. Conference leadership regarding matters of faith and life.
  • As a part-time pastor, we understand that our pastor may be bi-vocational or semi-retired and do not expect more than part time ministry.

About Sayward Christian Fellowship:

  • We are a small church that has been around for approximately 30 years and have enjoyed a high degree of unity as a congregation over that time.
  • Our congregation is made up of mostly loggers, retirees and people who prefer a rural lifestyle.
  • We are a relational congregation that embodies the expression “church family”.
  • We have an informal worship style that currently includes hymns with some contemporary songs, a community prayer time, biblical message and community announcements.
  • We have a core group of mature believers with servant hearts who are excited to support the new pastor, including our previous pastors Mark Johnson and Bruce Fyfe who actively participate in our fellowship.
  • We own our building, which includes a multipurpose sanctuary with movable chairs, kitchen, office, nursery, classrooms and washroom, situated on a nice parcel of land with adequate parking.
  • We see potential for outreach to younger families and youth in our community as there is a growing population of young families in the community due to the lower cost of living and rural setting.
  • While we have a passion to see young families as part of our congregation, we need leadership to help us learn to reach out beyond our current demographic.

About Sayward:

  • Sayward is on Vancouver Island, approximately 1 hour North of Campbell River.
  • Our community has about 400 households, spread out for approximately 18 kms. Some homes are located in a rural setting, with others in a pretty village overlooking the estuary and Johnstone Strait.
  • Sayward has an elementary school, gas station, convenience store and coffee shop. Most supplies and services are located in Campbell River. Children in middle school and high school are bused to schools in Campbell River.
  • Sayward is the perfect place for the rurally inclined person who loves the outdoors and a slower pace of life.

The potentials:

  • We are a small church with a big heart. We do Christian fellowship well and want to be in our larger community more.
  • We are the closest MB church to Camp Bob, a vibrant summer camp approximately 25 minutes away.
  • We are part of the Mennonite Brethren family with great networks and supports, including a strong MB fellowship with 6 other churches on Vancouver Island that offer support, prayer and encouragement.

We look forward to welcoming our next pastor, who will lead us in growth and maturity as God’s people in this great community.

Salary

Approx. $2000/month

We gather as a body of believers every Sunday for worship, Word, and sacrament, and we gather in smaller communities as D Groups throughout the week for ongoing discipleship, that we might be known and in turn know others. We believe the church is called to God and then sent by God to be on mission. We live out that sent identity through a life of 24/7 worship in the everyday. We believe the gospel informs our vocational life, our family life, and our recreational life, and that there is no part of our lives that is not impacted by the in-breaking reality of the renewal of all things that has begun in the resurrection of Jesus. Midtown Church is reformed in soteriology, continuationist in pneumatology, missional in ecclesiology, and complementarian in polity.

PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a follower of Jesus, having recognized and repented of personal sin and baptized as a sign of death to self and life in Jesus. Life must clearly demonstrate a high level of spiritual maturity. Must be growing in Christ-likeness demonstrating a commitment to a transformed life through the work of the Holy Spirit in spiritual disciplines such as, prayer, study, giving, fasting, solitude, confession, unity, worship, etc. Must have a clear sense of God’s calling to ministry at Midtown with much passion for the calling. Ability to relate and work well with team members, whether staff or volunteer. Demonstrate a caring heart for others. Willing to mop the floor and set up chairs. Must agree with Midtown’s mission, values, and statement of faith, understanding that all areas of ministry (Service, Kids, D Groups, etc.) do not stand alone but fit under the umbrella of Midtown’s vision and mission. Should be an enthusiastic and creative team leader who is willing to work with current staff and volunteers, with an eye to equipping others for ministry through ongoing discipleship. In line with Midtown’s mission and vision, must live in the broader neighbourhood of the church, committed to reaching the people in that neighbourhood as God gives opportunity.
